The Education Foundation Announces New Name and New Logo in Fall 2009
The Foundation announced its change of name in the fall of 2009, and with that change followed a change of logo design. The name change, from EDMC Education Foundation to The Education Foundation with the trailer: Dream . Reach . Achieve, was decided at the Foundation Board's strategic planning meeting in the spring, '09. The Board decided that the new name would better describe our mission and purpose.
At the suggestion of The Art Institute of Las Vegas Public Relations Director, Anne Dean, we asked a graphic design class at The Art Institute of Las Vegas to help us produce a new logo, and we chose a design created by Anthony James Etzkorn, a forth year Graphic Design BA student originally from Hill City, South Dakota. Anthony, left in the photo, is proudly handed a Foundation award by his Graphic Design instructor, Brian Tinker.

Native of Columbia Student at The Art Institute of California-San Francisco Receives Culinary Scholarship
| | | | | | |
The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California-San Francisco and The Education Foundation presented a $1500 Pearson culinary scholarship to Luis Felipe Gonzalez. The criteria for this award are excellence in culinary studies and a record of community service. With a CGPA of 3.7, Felipe is on the Dean's list and ranks in the top five percent of all culinary students on the San Francisco campus. In addition to his demonstrated aptitude for culinary arts, Felipe's instructors particularly appreciate his professional attitude, preparedness for each class, and enthusiasm for learning.
Felipe's contributions to his community of culinary students have been noteworthy, as well. A native of Colombia, Felipe assisted Chef Director Linda Carucci in developing twenty South American recipes for the school's Latin Cuisines classes, which he helped teach. His fellow students had a chance to learn first-hand how to produce the flavors and replicate the traditional presentations of the Colombian and Peruvian recipes that Felipe grew up with. Off campus, Felipe recently represented the International Culinary School at the Discarded to Divine charity fundraiser event for St. Vincent de Paul, setting up and hosting a food station at this annual San Francisco fashion show and fundraiser.

"Synergy" Brings Community and College Together at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. | | | | | | | The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale’s “Synergy” art and music festival was a great hit, with people coming and going all day long. Participants enjoyed a battle of the bands, face painting, art/jewelry shopping, food from the school’s Culinary Department, and, to top it all off, a fashion show by the Fashion Design Department. Christine David, Academic Affairs, has long had the idea of bringing together college and community to raise funds for current students through Foundation scholarships. Her idea won the enthusiasm of a great team of workers, many of whom are volunteer members of the school’s Scholarship Committee.
To add to the excitement, the “Synergy” development team held a silent auction, featuring Venus Williams’ tennis dress worn when she won Wimbleton in 2007. Venus graduated from the Fashion Design Program at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in 2007. Also on the auction block were sneakers decorated by celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Gloria Estefan, Jessica Simpson, Jeff Conine and accessory designer Donald Pliner.
The festival raised over $2,000 for The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale/Education Foundation Scholarship Fund. Great job, Fort Lauderdale!
In the photo, above: Debbie Rose-Myers, an instructor at the school, ran the jewelry-making venuture and her husband Glenn did the bookkeeping. This photo speaks volumes: jewelry-making was a gem of a hit at the festival!
